Mitton wins gold at World Indoor Championships

Sarah Mitton claimed gold with a throw of 20.22 metres competing at the World Athletic Indoor Championships hosted in Glasgow Friday morning.

The Brooklyn, Nova Scotia native came into the competition ranked second in the world, but ultimately bested the field which included world number one ranked Chase Ealy (USA).

Based on how the event schedule was set up, Mitton was the first gold medal winner in Glasgow, with women’s shotput being the first event to conclude.

Mitton was also selected as Canada’s co-captain for the event, the second time she has done so at an international event.

Following the win Mitton told reporters she now looking forward to “ramping things up” as she prepares for the upcoming Paris games.
