Nova Scotia’s Liberal leader wants to see a planned carbon tax hike be paused.
Zach Churchill has written a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the April 1 increase.
He says life is too expensive for people right now.
“Another increase to the cost of living is going to have a negative impact on a lot of people, including working families. We think we need a pause on the increase to the carbon tax,” said Churchill.
He puts blame on Premier Tim Houston, and says the Premier needs to step-up and negotiate a better deal.
“We want the Premier to negotiate a cap-and-trade, like we had in place with the federal government, or a better deal so Nova Scotians don’t have to face this increase.”
Houston was one of seven Premiers to write to the Prime Minister asking for a pause on the tax.
The Premier said the last thing Nova Scotians need right now is more tax, when we’re experiencing some of the highest inflation numbers in 30 years.
