Resolution Weight Loss Harder Than It Seems

If the start of a new year means a plan to lose a significant amount of weight, keeping it off could be a bigger challenge than you thought.

Health Psychologist Dr. Michael Allis says if you need to lose more than 100 pounds you should expect that journey to take much longer than a year.

“When it comes to weight we need to me very realistic about moderate levels of weight management,” he says. “We recommend no more than 20% of your body weight.”

That means someone who weighs 300lbs shouldn’t lose more than 20 lbs and then maintain that for several months before attempting to lose again.

Vallis says losing weight too fast will set your body up to work against you.

He says it’s best to take small steps in the right direction to see long lasting results.
