It will go down in the history books.
A solar eclipse occurred across our province Monday afternoon, when the moon passed between the Earth and sun.
There were nearly 800 people outside the Discovery Centre in Halifax to witness the rare celestial event, and the weather was clear, sunny and seasonally warm.
The path of totality where the moon blocked the sunlight entirely included parts of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland.
North America’s next total solar eclipse will be Aug. 23rd, 2044.
However, it won’t be until 2079 when the path of totality returns here to the Maritimes.
Miramichi celebrates
Thousands flocked to the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick to see the solar eclipse.
It’s one of the areas that was in the path of totality.
Mayor Adam Lordon says they turned it into a week-long festival.
“In Miramichi, we’re known as the city of festivals. We’ve had an astronomy conference, and innovation fair for youth across Atlantic Canada. We’ve got a clear sunny day, and we’re ready for the main event,” said Mayor Lordon.
They even had a drone light show Sunday night at the airport.
