You may have noticed people in safety vests and gloves filling up garbage bags.
The Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up has been happening in various communities ahead of Earth Day on April 22nd.
About 50 Mineville residents on the Eastern Shore spent a sunny Sunday scouring ditches and roadsides for litter.
They found everything – including the bathroom sink!
Volunteers Christa Higgins and Zoe Crane said they mostly picked up cigarette butts, liquor cans and/or bottles, and fast-food containers.
There was also an old pink vanity sink that someone had dumped.
Crane noted that much of the litter was near driveways where garbage bins had likely been spilled.
One young volunteer really cleaned up! The six-year-old found a $100 bill curled up under a KFC bucket.

Air Cadets made a difference by collecting 26 bags of garbage from around Port Hawkesbury.
St. Peter’s residents can also do their part for Earth Day.
On Monday, the village office is offering garbage bags and gloves to people who would like to clean up around the local area.
According to its Facebook page, the village will work with the Municipality of the County of Richmond to ensure all garbage is picked up.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “Planet versus Plastics.”
