N.S. adds 3,100 residents in Q1: StatCan estimates

Nova Scotia continues to see strong population growth thanks to permanent immigration, according to Statistics Canada.

New population estimates released Wednesday show we added 3,100 people during the first three months of 2024.

The province’s population was estimated to be 1.072 million as of April 1, compared to 1.069 million three months earlier.

Nova Scotia welcomed just under 4,000 permanent immigrants in the first quarter, which StatCan said is the highest number in any quarter on record.

We also saw a net increase of nearly 300 non-permanent residents during the first quarter of this year.

However, when it comes to interprovincial migration, our province saw a net decrease of around 200 residents.
