Teacher from Tatamagouche faces sex charges

A teacher from Tatamagouche faces sex charges for allegedly assaulting a student several times.

The teacher was placed on leave on June 18, while the administration for the Tatamagouche Regional Academy investigated, according to a news release from RCMP.

The administration notified police on June 25, and they arrested a 36-year-old woman, a teacher at the school, the same day.

Police allege she sexually assaulted a student multiple times between May and June. She also sent explicit photos to that student and at least one other, police say.

Her list of charges includes:

  • sexual assault
  • sexual interference
  • sexual exploitation
  • luring a child
  • invitation to sexual touching
  • making sexually explicit material available to a child

The woman was released on conditions and will appear in Truro Provincial Court in September.

RCMP encourage any survivors to contact their local police stations.

“Police want victims to know that they can contact them and discuss an incident before making a decision to further participate in the investigation and court process,” police wrote in the release.
