Garden tool mistaken for gun caused Lunenburg County emergency alert

A garden tool mistaken for a gun led to the recent emergency alert issued in Lunenburg County.

Around 7:30 a.m. on June 26, RCMP received reports of a man wandering around Barss Corner with what was reported as a firearm.

Shortly after an emergency alert was issued for Lunenburg County, advising residents near Barss Corner to stay inside and lock their doors.

Police apprehended the suspect within an hour near New Germany, and he only had a long garden tool on him, with no gun in sight.

A search was then conducted in the surrounding area and at the suspects’ residence, which also found no traces of a gun.

Police then determined that the tips they received must have come from people who mistook the garden tool for a gun.

The man was subsequently released and was not charged.
