There’s A New Paw Patrol In Lunenburg

There’s a new sheriff policing pooches in Lunenburg.

Town council approved a contract with Brian Truelove with Oceanmark Kennels in Chester Grant to provide dog control services.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says dog calls used to be handled by town police but since they were disbanded, RCMP has been taking those calls.

“We have leaned on our members of the RCMP. And although it’s not something that they’ve felt comfortable doing, they haven’t left us in the lurch.”

Mayor Rachel Bailey says they’re not just worried about violent dogs.

“It’s also just missing dogs, lost dogs – I guess that’s the less traumatic occurance. And so if we have a dog that’s lost and someone brings it to us we need to have someone come look after the animal until it’s retrieved.”

A new dog control officer was needed after RCMP notified the town in July that they would no longer be providing the service.

Bailey says it’s good to partner with other municipalities to share services.

Oceanmark Kennels also handles dog concerns for the Municipalities of the Districts of Chester and Lunenburg.
