Lunenburg Barnacle co-founder to run for mayor

Lunenburg will have its second contested mayoral race in a little over one year.

The former editor-in-chief and co-founder of the Lunenburg Barnacle Jesse Ward announced he would be running for mayor on social media Monday morning.

In Ward’s post, he outlined three key campaign platforms including affordable housing, improved communication and establishing a new town plan.

He also said he’d bring back the much-missed Battery Point foghorn.

Ward and his friends started the Lunenburg Barnacle in 2023 after struggling to find comprehensive coverage of town news. Since then Ward says he’s attended every town council meeting following what going on and reporting on it.

Ward left his position as editor-in-chief with the Lunenburg Barnacle earlier this summer to avoid a conflict of interests while campaigning.

He joins incumbent Mayor Jamie Myra in the race who already indicated his intention to reoffer.

Myra was elected in August 2023 from a byelection to replace former Mayor Matt Risser. In that election, he defeated Gale Fullerton.
