Canada falls to Argentina in Copa America semifinal

Despite an impressive run, Nova Scotia’s Jacob Shaffelburg and Team Canada fell to Argentina 2-0 in the Copa America semifinal in New Jersey.

It was called 48th-ranked Canada’s biggest game ever on the men’s world stage.

Goals from Julián Álvarez and Lionel Messi advanced top-ranked Argentina to its second straight Copa America final.

Jacob Shaffelburg of Port Williams became a household name when he scored Canada’s lone goal in their quarterfinal win over Venezuela on Friday.

A watch party was held at a bar in his hometown during Tuesday’s historic soccer match.

Canada now heads to Charlotte for Saturday’s third-place game.
