Inmate dies in custody at Springhill jail

A prisoner has died in custody at the Springhill Institution, a medium-security prison.

Charles Mangapi was serving a sentence of two years, seven months and seven days when he died Saturday.

He started serving his sentence June 7 after he was convicted of two counts of motor vehicle theft and one count of sexual interference of a child under 16, according to a news release from the Correctional Service of Canada.

The Canada Correctional Service did not release any information about how the man died.

The correctional service is investigating.
