New Playground Needed For Bridgewater Elementary

A group in Bridgewater is asking the town to keep them in mind when funds from the 2017-18 budget are being allocated.

Cathy Carey-Lewis is with the Bridgewater Elementary Playground Committee.

She says a complete overhaul of the current playground is important work that can’t wait any longer.

“It’s basically a paved parking lot that kids go out in everyday…I think sometimes it can get overlooked because people assume the school board is paying for for everything and helps us out, but we get zero funds from the school board… because there are none available for playgrounds.”

Carey says having a good playground isn’t just about helping the kids have fun.

She says good equipment helps keep the focus on play and off of each other reducing bullying.

Carey says the current equipment will only last until the end of this school year.

Designs for a new playground have already been completed.

The committee is asking for $62,500 to start which will be considered during budget deliberations over the next several months.
