Although Nova Scotia will be avoiding a direct hit from Hurricane Ernesto parts of the province on the Atlantic coast will see heavy surf.
Ernesto will be passing Nova Scotia to the northwest throughout Monday as it makes it’s way towards Newfoundland where projections are saying it will most likely make landfall.

It’s currently travelling as a category one hurricane, which is blowing heavy winds towards Nova Scotia causing increased wave size and riptide.
Nova Scotia Parks sent out an advisory related to Ernesto asking people to avoid getting in the water at beaches along the Atlantic coast.
Swimming is not recommended at provincial beaches along the Atlantic coast on Monday August 19th. Please avoid the water for swimming and surfing due to dangerous surf conditions, large waves, and rip currents. Lifeguards will be present at supervised beaches advising beachgoers to stay out of the water. This advisory is in place for the following beaches, Queensland Beach, Rainbow Haven Beach, Conrads Beach, Lawrencetown Beach, Martinique Beach and Clam Harbour Beach.

Boating is also not recommended throughout Monday with the Atlantic coastal waters projected to be even more turbulent than what is expected onshore.
The adverse conditions are expected to last throughout most of the day Monday, with the storm expected to arrive in Newfoundland by Tuesday morning.
Environment Canada has already issued tropical cyclone warnings for much of the island as it expects Ernesto to lose intensity throughout Monday.
