Nova Scotia’s school lunch program is going live.
Meals can now be ordered online for 28 schools, and will start being served on October 1.
The website ‘NSlunch.ca‘ includes two meal options per day, with photos and full ingredients.
Education minister Becky Druhan says the system was built to ensure privacy.
“Giving families affordable lunch options, while keeping what they pay known only to them. Once orders are in, we’re looking forward to Tuesday, October 1 when the first lunches are served,” said Druhan.
There are 40 different lunches for this school year that align with the province’s food and nutrition policy, and celebrate diversity.
Families will have the option to pay the full $6.50 per day.
The next start dates are October 15, with the final round of schools on October 28.
The first phase of the program covers 75,000 students in elementary school grades, with over 13 million lunches being served.
Druhan says the province is putting in over $18 million for this school year, with the federal government projected to come on board.
