MacMaster to drop out of N.S. cabinet, seek federal nomination

Nova Scotia’s Deputy Premier wants a seat in Ottawa.

Allan MacMaster announced he is seeking the Conservative nomination for Cape Breton-Canso in the next federal election.

He says he will remain as MLA for Inverness, but is resigning from his cabinet role as finance minister.

MacMaster adds should he win the nomination, he will resign his seat in the legislature, and he’ll do his best to help elect a PC candidate.

He has been in provincial government for 15 years, he joined Premier Tim Houston’s cabinet in 2021.

MacMaster’s announcement comes ahead of an expected provincial election call this weekend.
