The Nature Conservancy of Canada is protecting more land in Shelburne County.
Over 578 hectares of old forest and freshwater wetlands has been purchased in Clyde River.
Dave Ireland with the NCC says it’s pristine habitat for many at-risk species.
“Having it connected to places like the Tobeatic Wilderness Reserve, or Kejimkujik National Park, creates connectivity between the habitats so species can roam and survive long term,” said Ireland.
He says the project showcases how their accelerating the pace of conservation in Canada.
He thanks those who were willing to sell their land at market value.
“We purchased this land so that we can protect it for the long haul, and we thank those who participated.”
It’s situated between the Roseway River Wilderness area and the Harpers Lake Nature Reserve.
