Fewer people using write-in ballots, but early votes up overall

Fewer people are using write-in ballots in the Nova Scotia provincial election.

But more people have voted overall compared to the same time in the 2021 election, according to statistics from Elections Nova Scotia.

With 15 days left to go in the campaign, 828 people have used write-in ballots.

That’s 2,794 less than the same time in the 2021 election.

But in-person ballots more than make up for the difference in overall turnout.

Nearly 20,152 people have voted at a returning office this year compared to 16,396 in 2021.

Community polls are being used more, with 1,178 votes cast there so far this year, compared to 792 in 2021.
