The start of the commercial lobster season in Lobster Fishing Areas (LFAs) 33 and 34 has been delayed due to weather concerns.
Preseason calls confirmed a “no-go” decision for Sunday, November 24.
Dumping Day, traditionally held on the last Monday of November, could have started early on November 24 if conditions were favourable.
However, safety concerns, including forecasts of winds over 26 knots, have prompted delays.
Each LFA operates independently, with LFA 34 set to begin at 6 a.m. and LFA 33 at 7 p.m. on the eventual start date.
The two LFAs are some of the most productive fisheries in the nation and together cover most of the province’s coastline from Peggy’s Cove down around the province’s southwestern tip.

Another weather call will take place Saturday morning and if the weather is favourable dumping day could take place on Monday, November 25.
