A man serving a life sentence for murdering Yarmouth’s Colton Cook had his Supreme Court appeal denied.
Robert Rogers made the appeal based on his belief the judge made errors with jury instructions regarding key witness testimony.
Cook’s mother Stacey Cook says it’s a major relief.
“It’s an early Christmas present as far as I’m concerned. We don’t have to deal with him for a while, and we don’t have to see him for another 16 or so years,” said Stacey Cook.
Stacey adds the community support has been fantastic.
“Thanks to everyone for sticking with us, we still have lots more to do. Some laws need to be changed regarding sentences for violent crimes.”
Colton Cook was shot and stabbed at a home in South Ohio in September, 2020, and his remains were found days later.
Rogers was convicted of second degree murder, and sentenced to life with no parole for 19 years.
Two others were charged in the murder, Wayne Crawford was sentenced to life with no parole for 10 years, while Keith Siscoe Jr. was given three years for accessory after the fact.
