A major fundraising campaign is underway to enhance the Celtic Music Interpretative Centre in Cape Breton.
The centre’s website states, “Designated the Official Celtic Music Centre of Nova Scotia and the Official Cultural Archives for the County of Inverness, CMIC offers an in-depth look into the history, culture and music of Cape Breton Island.” Among its many offerings are ceilidhs, exhibits, musical walking tours, Gaelic lessons and music lessons.
The CMIC board of directors has announced they have set a goal of $500,000 as their part of a revitalization project. They will reveal government supports in the new year.
Forty percent of the board’s commitment would go to a new roof for the 18-year-old centre in Judique.
The project also involves building renovations, new furniture and equipment, and program expansion.
According to a release, “These enhancements will have a significant impact on the economic success of our community, one that encompasses the village of Judique, the broader region of Eastern NS, and the interconnected musical circles and market that span Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and worldwide.”
