N.S. doctor waitlist decreases by over 9,000

As we start off the New Year, over 9,000 people have been removed from the Need a Family Practice Registry.

According to Nova Scotia Health (NSH), the number on doctor waitlist on December 4, 2024, was 119,670, as of January 2, 2025, that number as gone down to 110,456.

NSH says in a media release, the number of those being taken off the list is due to people finding a family doctor.

“In total 9,214 people were attached or removed as a result of ongoing validation work that confirmed they have a provider in December 2024.”

About 10.4 per cent of the population is still on the registry, which will be updated again in February.
