Province announces new ER for Cumberland County

A brand new emergency department in Cumberland County.

The Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre near Amherst is getting an ER that’s double in size, along with a 12-station renal dialysis unit.

The province announced the project, saying the tender will go out early this year.

MLA Tory Rushton says it will strengthen healthcare in the region and eliminate the need for long travel for dialysis.

The department will have the capacity to serve up to 23,000 patients per year.

It will also replace the temporary five-station dialysis unit currently in place.

The new ER is expected to be ready before the end of 2027.
