IWK gives hero tribute to 5-year-old killed after tragic fire

The little boy who was one of three children killed in a devastating house fire in Lower Sackville became a real-life “superhero”, early Thursday.

According to a Facebook post from family friend Alyssa Martin, the IWK did a “Hero’s Walk” when five-year-old Cayson became an organ donor.

He lost his life after a fire destroyed a duplex on Riverside Drive, around 3 a.m., January 11.

His cousin, six-year-old Chloe and sister, nine-year-old Alauna also passed as a result of their injuries.

Thirty-seven-year-old Tanya and her two-year-old daughter were able to get out of the house.

The tragic loss of such young lives has touched people in communities near and far.

Cayson’s father, 40-year-old Jermaine, was rescued by a neighbour and was in critical condition. He is now recovering and was released from the hospital on Thursday morning.

In the statement on social media, Martin says “Jermaine has been released from the hospital today with Tanya by his side, and the family will continue to grieve and begin to heal together in their temporary accommodations.”

A GoFundMe has been circulating online in support of the family and has so far raised over $120,000.

She says they are in awe of the “outpouring love and support” from the community.

Officials have not yet announced how the fire started.
