This follows Dennis King’s resignation on Thursday, which will come into effect Friday afternoon.

Lantz was picked by all members of the Progressive Conservative party to be the interim leader. He has served as party leader and MLA for Charlottetown-Brighton in the past.

Lantz won his current seat in the 2023 election and has been the education minister since October. Before that, he was the minister of housing, land, and communities.

With Lantz taking over the leadership, he will become the 34th premier of P.E.I.

All three parties in the legislature will now have interim leaders. The Progressive Conservative Party will soon start looking for a permanent leader.
