RCMP investigating firefighting incident during response to fatal snowmobile crash

RCMP are investigating a fatal incident in Collingwood Corner involving a snowmobile crash and a fire truck.

Police say that around 10:20 p.m. on February 21, a 28-year-old Springhill man was operating a snowmobile on Wyvern Road when it left the road and hit a snowbank.

First responders, including RCMP, fire services, and EHS, were called to the scene.

While the man was being attended to in the roadway, he was struck by a fire truck.

He was pronounced dead shortly after.

The driver of the fire truck has since been relieved of firefighting duties while the investigation unfolds.

The RCMP Collision and Reconstruction Service team is assisting in the investigation.

Both the snowmobile and the fire truck have been seized.
