Former P.E.I. premier named Canada’s next Ambassador to Ireland

A new role for the recently-retired premier of Prince Edward Island.

Dennis King has been appointed as Canada’s next Ambassador to Ireland.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointment in a news release on Monday.

“With his years of experience in public service, including as the premier of Prince Edward Island, I am confident that he will serve Canada well and make the strong partnership between our two countries even stronger,” Trudeau was quoted as saying in the release.

King resigned as premier less than two weeks ago, saying it was time for him to move on.

Nancy Smyth has served as the current Ambassador to Ireland since 2021.
