As you may know, Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, also owns a space company called Blue Origin. He has previously taken wealthy individuals and celebrities into space, including William Shatner a few years ago.
Today, however, an all-women space crew is set to blast off from West Texas at around 10:30 AM local time. Among the crew are several celebrities. Here are the names of everyone on board:
- Katy Perry – Singer
- Gayle King – CBS Morning host
- Kerianna Flynn – Film Producer
- Aisha Bowe – Rocket Scientist
- Amanda Nguyen – Bioastronautics research scientist and activist
- Lauren Sanchez – Jeff Bezos’ fiancé
It will be the first time in 62 years that an all female crew have traveled to space. In 1963 Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space when she made the trip solo.
This will be an 11 minute trip past the boundary of space. The spacecraft is automated and does not require a pilot on board.
