Two arrested after truck stolen in Shelburne

Police have charged two people after a truck was allegedly stolen in Shelburne.

The RCMP says a GMC Sierra truck was reported stolen in Jordan Falls on Friday morning. Police learned two suspects were involved, according to a news release.

They got an unrelated report of two people on foot off Morvan Road who matched the descriptions of the suspects.

They found and arrested one with the help of a police dog. They say they learned the other suspect may have had a gun, and started searching for him using drones, as well as their emergency response team.

In the early afternoon, they found the truck abandoned on a side road near Shelburne. They took evidence as part of the investigation and gave the truck back to the owner.

Officers later identified the suspect and arrested him outside a home on Sandy Point Road.

He faces several charges, including:

  • motor vehicle theft
  • possessing property obtained by crime
  • unauthorized possession of a gun
  • possession of a gun knowing its possession is unauthorized

He appeared in court on Saturday but was remanded into custody.

The first suspect arrested by police faces a charge of possessing property obtained by crime, but that person was released on conditions to appear in court later.

The second suspect did not have a gun when he was arrested, but police say they found a gun on Monday during an unrelated call, and they are trying to determine if it was used when the man allegedly stole the vehicle.

The investigation continues.
