Firefighter falls 9 feet fighting blaze in Herring Cove

A big fall for a firefighter while battling a second-alarm fire in Herring Cove.

Halifax Professional Fire Fighters says in a statement on social media, the member fell 9 feet on a “compromised floor” while tackling the blaze.

“Fortunately, they had previously operated on the lower level and were able to quickly self-extricate after reorienting themselves,” says the union.

“As the member fell, their partner attempted to grab them—dislodging their mask in the process, in a high heat and smoke-filled environment. A third member also sustained minor burn injuries.”

Despite this, the union says, firefighters were able to continue working.
