The body of a missing boater has been recovered nearly a month after a capsized vessel triggered an extensive search in Devon.
On April 10, the RCMP, local fire crews and paramedics responded to reports of a capsized boat on Cousins Lake. Two people had been in the boat at the time — one man was able to swim to shore, while the other could not be found.
Search and rescue crews from multiple agencies conducted an extensive search of the area over several weeks, but were unable to locate the missing man.
On May 4, the man’s family visited the lake and discovered human remains. Those remains were recovered by ground search and rescue and fire services.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner has since confirmed the remains belong to the missing 58-year-old man from Truro. His death is not considered suspicious.
RCMP say they’re grateful to all the organizations that assisted in the search, including fire services, ground search and rescue volunteers, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, and the Department of Natural Resources Air Services.
The man’s identity has not been released.
