St. FX’s Dr. Andy Hakin new Chair of N.S. council of university presidents

The Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents (CONSUP) has a new Chair.

Dr. Handy Hakin has assumed the role for a two-year term that began June 11.

Dr. Hakin is also President and Vice-Chancellor at St. FX.

“Nova Scotia’s universities, like others across Canada, are navigating an era of change, from meeting the expectations and demands of today’s students and society, to unprecedented fiscal pressures. University leaders will continue to impress upon the provincial government the vital role the sector plays in driving Nova Scotia’s economic and population growth, as well as the social and culture development of our regions. Together, we can build a more resilient, innovative and inclusive post-secondary landscape that serves students, communities, and the future of Nova Scotia,” says Hakin in a statement.

He adds that the province’s universities are working to address the priorities of the provincial government, particularly Action for Health.

Dr. Hakin replaces David Dingwall, President and Vice-Chancellor of Cape Breton University.

Appointed Vice-chair of CONSUP, also for a two-year term is Dr. Kim Brooks, President and Vice-Chancellor of Dalhousie University.
