Irving Shipyard charged after man was killed by snow plow in 2024

One of the largest shipbuilding yards in the country is facing charges after a man died at work last winter.

Jamie Knight, 43, was hit and killed by a large snow plow at the Irving Shipyard in Halifax on Feb. 19, 2024.

The crown alleges the wheel-loader was not up to the manufacturer’s safety standards.

They say the company also failed to have someone directing the heavy equipment, and they did not have a risk assessment for workers coming and going from a smoke hut.

Two other charges claim they did not create a safe-work plan for snow clearing.

Charges were laid Monday and the case returns to court in October.
