MacKay Bridge to close this weekend to finish toll removal

The MacKay Bridge is about to shut down this weekend.

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) says it is the final step in removing the tolls.

“Crews will complete final maintenance work, remove the cable inspection platforms, and reconnect the Princess Margaret Boulevard ramps,” says HHB.

Not only that, but once the harbour span reopens on Monday morning, the speed limit will jump up to 70 km/h from 50 km/h.

Removing the tolls has been ongoing since March and was an election promise from Premier Tim Houston.
