What’s open and closed across Nova Scotia for Natal Day

Natal Day is observed on Monday, August 4, across Nova Scotia. While it’s not a provincewide statutory holiday or a designated retail closing day, residents can expect some service adjustments.

Retail and Services:

  • Most grocery stores, liquor stores, and pharmacies will be open, though many locations will operate with reduced holiday hours, typically opening around noon and closing by 6 p.m.
  • Some locally owned businesses may close for the day or adjust hours—check ahead before heading out.

Public Services:

  • Libraries will be closed provincewide.
  • Many municipal recreation centres and community facilities will also be closed for the holiday. Outdoor facilities like parks and splash pads may remain open depending on the municipality.

Mail and Government Services:

  • Canada Post will not collect or deliver mail on Natal Day.
  • Most banks and government offices will also be closed.

Transit and Waste Collection:

  • Transit schedules and waste collection vary by municipality. Residents should check local service providers for details.
