Renters without power for nearly two weeks in Halifax apartment

Several tenants have been in the dark for nearly two weeks in a Halifax apartment.

And now some at The Scotian building on Green St. must leave because of damage from a flood, but NDP MLA Lisa LaChance says many don’t know the details.

She says no one is offering help, and while most people have weathered a power outage, this is going on too long.

“People can’t make food. They’re spending tons of money, you know, having to buy food just for, like, the day, because they can’t refrigerate it. They can’t heat it up. You know, people who have medical devices haven’t been able to use them,” said LaChance.

LaChance says she is bringing food to the tenants on Monday.

She says the province should be stepping in to help people in this situation. She reached out to let them know what was happening, but she says the power was still out Monday morning.

“Even this morning, there’s still there’s no power. There’s no updates. There’s been no action by the Houston government to protect renters in this situation,” said LaChance.
