NDP calls for more action to help tenants without power in downtown Halifax

The NDP is calling on the provincial government to do more to help people at an apartment in downtown Halifax.

Some tenants are still in the dark after more than two weeks at The Scotian apartment building.

NDP MLA Lisa LaChance has sent a letter to Service Nova Scotia Minister Jill Balser.

LaChance says she is glad the department will fast-track applications to the Residential Tenancies Program.

But the tenants are frustrated that Balser has not stepped in to offer direct support.

LaChance says the government needs a tenancy enforcement unit to make sure landlords act fast to make repairs.
