Canada’s inflation rate inched up to 1.9 per cent in August.
Statistics Canada said that was compared to 1.7 per cent the month before.
Gasoline prices fell to a lesser extent year over year last month, said the report.
On a yearly basis, prices for gasoline fell 12.7 per cent in August, compared with a 16.1 per cent decline in July.
Moderating the increase in inflation were lower prices for travel tours and fresh fruit.
Inflation was below the national average in Prince Edward Island (1.1 per cent), Newfoundland and Labrador (1.3 per cent), Alberta (1.4 per cent), New Brunswick (1.6 per cent), Ontario (1.7 per cent), Saskatchewan (1.7 per cent) and British Columbia (1.8 per cent).
Manitoba (2.0 per cent), Nova Scotia (2.2 per cent) and Quebec (2.7 per cent) saw inflation rates above the national average.
