Roughly 375 part-time staff at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax are going on strike.
According to CUPE 3912, they will walk off the job at 12 p.m., Wednesday.
The union representing part-time instructors were at the table, Tuesday, on day 13 of a 14-day cooling off period.
A deal was not reached.
Meantime, part-time staff at Dalhousie University will not be walking off the job.
In a statement CUPE Local 3912 President Lauren Mackenzie said the deal came on the eve of possible job action and after nearly a year of negotiations.
“Our members were ready to take action, and it was clear that Dal came to the table with that front of mind,” said Lauren McKenzie, CUPE 3912 President. “They avoided a strike by agreeing to a fair deal. We obviously hope the same will be true with other employers. We are proud to be fighting for academic workers, for students, and for world-class postsecondary education in Nova Scotia.”
The union was in talks Tuesday with The Mount and Saint Mary’s Wednesday.
Key issues are wages and job security.
Details will not be shared until members ratify the agreement which the union says will take place as soon as possible.
