Police Looking For Public’s Help in Yarmouth Diner Fire Investigation

The owner of a popular eatery in Yarmouth that was destroyed by fire held a fundraiser Saturday to help the 12 displaced employees.

Chuck Collishaw used a food truck for the event. It was set up next to the burned out diner on the Hardscratch Road.

The fire on August 29 has been deemed as suspicious by investigators.

Although two arrests were made just days later, no charges have been laid.

RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says whether or not someone is arrested or questioned doesn’t change the investigation, which is ongoing.

She says sometimes more supporting evidence is needed in order to determine whether or not a charge can be laid.

Cpl. Clarke says the RCMP is still looking for the public’s help, particularly in relation to a large white plastic jug found inside the diner which investigators determined had been used to carry gasoline.

“That wouldn’t normally be used to store or transport gasoline. If anyone is able to give us a call if they have seen anyone filling up a can like that right around the time of the fire we would really appreciate that and certainly if anybody has information about the fire itself, we would appreciate them giving us a call.”

She says people with information can contact the Yarmouth Town RCMP at 902-742-8777.

Or to remain anonymous, you can also contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477)
