Shelburne Municipality Finishes 2016-17 In The Black

The Municipality of the District of Shelburne has some money in the bank.

The results of their 2016-17 audit shows the municipality ended the year with a surplus of almost $209,000.

Warden Penny Smith says a previous surplus helped with their contribution to the new medical clinic.

“Without these accumulated reserve funds, the municipality would have to either borrow those funds or raise tax rates. We do not wish to do either of those things. So generating small surpluses annually is a wise financial strategy.”

The extra cash comes as part of an aggressive tax collection program.

Forty two properties which were sold at public auction also helped increase the municipality’s revenue.
