Guysborough goldmine clears final hurdle before construction

A new gold mine coming to Guysborough County has cleared the last major hurdle before construction.

The NexGold company says DFO authorized multiple permits related to building and running the mine.

The province previously gave them their industrial approval in August. According to a news release at the time, they expect it to create 735 jobs and generate more than $500 million in tax dollars.

The company says the permits also outline their ongoing engagement with Mi’kmaq in the province, “including opportunities to participate in offsetting projects,” NexGold says.

Construction is expected to start in 2026.
