Tentative deal reached at SMU for part-time instructors

Part-time faculty at Saint Mary’s University have reached a tentative agreement after a three-week strike.

CUPE Local 3912, which represents about 150 instructors, says the deal includes wage adjustments, higher vacation pay, and changes to reappointment rules.

Members began voting today, and if ratified, classes and labs that have been paused since October 23 are expected to resume on Monday.

The union says all part-time staff who held contracts from Fall 2022 to Fall 2025 can vote on the proposed deal.

Meanwhile, CUPE 3912 members at Mount Saint Vincent University remain without an agreement. They’ve been seeking similar improvements in pay and job security.
