Portland Mayor Worried About Yarmouth Ferry Service

The mayor of Portland doesn’t know if a high-speed catamaran is the best option for the Yarmouth-to-Maine ferry service.

Ethan Strimling says he understands Bay Ferries is talking to the U.S. Navy about securing the vessel.

He says a decision about the type of vessel is out of his hands.

But, hopes one is made soon.

“I’m worried that we’re getting pretty late in the season and we might not be able to get across that finish line today for this season. But, I’m hoping we can because it’s really important.”

Strimling says the ferry provides roughly 50 jobs and economic spin-off to Portland.

Bay Ferries issued a statement saying they can’t discuss the ferry search because they are competing against other operators.
