Chapel Island man arrested for child sexual abuse charges

A man has been charged with ten child sexual abuse and exploitation material offences.

RCMP say the 21-year-old man from Chapel Island attempted to enter a home to see a youth who was inside on November 19.

Through their investigation, officers determined the man had begun a relationship with the youth online in September.

An electronic device was seized from the man’s residence after a search warrant was executed.

Given his online presence, police believe there could be additional victims and officers encourage other survivors to come forward.

The charges are:

• Sexual Interference (three counts)
• Sexual Assault (three counts)
• Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child
• Luring a Child
• Invitation to Sexual Touching
• Making Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material
• Break and Enter
• Uttering Threats
• Mischief Under $5000
• Fail to Comply with Undertaking
