Black History Month honouring the experiences, achievements and contributions of Black communities happens this February.
This year’s theme is “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.”
Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Marc Miller announced the theme at the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia.
“Throughout February, we will celebrate the lasting contributions of black Canadians to building our nation and many of those remarkable stories are rooted right here in Nova Scotia,” said Miller.
“Black History Month is also about looking ahead. It’s about recognizing today’s black leaders who continue to tell the stories that must be told, shape public policy and strengthen community spaces where memory, healing and pride can flourish.”
During his visit, he revealed more than $280,000 of funding for projects across the Atlantic Region that highlight Black History Month.
