‘I’d love to see a PWHL team here,’ says N.S. tourism minister

Would the province like to see a Professional Women’s Hockey League team in Nova Scotia?

Tourism minister Dave Ritcey says yes.

Two ‘Takeover’ games at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax sold-out in minutes.

Ritcey says they met with the league in December.

“Those two games sent a strong message to the league. It lies with the league, and that’s what the ‘Takeover’ events are about, playing in those markets that don’t have teams,” said Ritcey.

He says women’s hockey is growing in the region, and the PWHL were very excited about the strong crowds.

Ritcey pointed to the U18 Women’s Worlds happening in Cape Breton, and a strong finish for Team Atlantic at nationals in Newfoundland.
