RCMP warns cyber searching for the perfect match could be risky.
Constable Mark Skinner says while meeting people online has grown in popularity, so has the need to take extra precautions.
“If you’re meeting with someone you’ve met online, you don’t know who they are, there’s always the risk of violence if you don’t know who they are. But there’s also the risk of identity fraud,” said Skinner.
RCMP investigates complaints from victims who’ve been defrauded of thousands of dollars from someone met online.
Skinner advises If you have been victimized, reporting it. Secrecy works in favour of the fraudster.
