911 campaign helps nab more than 30 impaired drivers last month.
MADD Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia launched the campaign six years ago to encourage the public concerned about road safety to call 911.
RCMP’s Jennifer Clarke says the campaign is working, but monthly reminders of the ongoing problem are still necessary.
“It’s also important to make sure people know how many people in their region are being charged with impaired driving every month. I think this is a great idea. It seems to be the type of offence that we need to work very hard to make people understand the dangers of it,” said Clarke.
Police charged 51 drivers with impaired driving during the month of January.
31 of those were caught thanks to 911 calls from the public.
