Province, Film Industry Agree On New Fund

A new fund has been created to support the film and television industry in Nova Scotia.

It will provide 25 percent of the funding for eligible production costs and in some cases that could rise to 30 per cent.

Industry reps and government officials have been meeting since the provincial budget was unveiled earlier this month, revealing planned cuts to the film and TV production tax credit.

Thousands of actors, producers, directors and musicians protested the cuts in a huge demonstration – claiming it would kill the industry.

However, the film and screen industry is now welcoming the fund with open arms.

The Nova Scotia Film and Television Production Incentive Fund will be in place by July 1.
